AUGUST 2005 AFRICAN PHOTO SAFARI

Your 21-day African Safari to Kenya will take you to some of the most sought- after photo “hot spots” in the world.  In Samburu Game Reserve, a semi-desert habitat, you will see the unique reticulated giraffe, gerenuk that feed while standing on their hind legs, the thin-striped Grevy’s zebra, dozens of species of birds such as the lilac-breasted rollers, vulturine guineafowl, or pale-chanting goshawks.  Samburu is a great location for leopards and excellent for filming.

We will be visiting Lake Nakuru, home of one of the largest populations of lesser flamingos in the world, plus Rothschild giraffes, olive baboons, impala and rhinos are some examples.  Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, and Lake Naivasha are on our itinerary so we may photograph the scores of bird species that live in and around the area, such as: African spoonbills, goliath heron, jewel-like Malachite kingfisher, yellow-billed stork, and snake eagle to name a few.  The diversity of bird and wildlife around these areas is tremendous, and the photographic opportunities fantastic!!!

The Masai Mara Game Reserve is considered by many  the premier photography location in Africa offering a variety of habitats and wildlife.  Elephants, hippos, Masai giraffe, zebra, gnu, impala, Thompson’s & Grants gazelles, topi, hartebeest, hyrax, jackal, hyena, cheetah, leopard and lion are permanent, and fairly common residents within the park.  The highlight of this area is the ‘great migration’ of the wildebeest and zebra, and hopefully,  the famous river crossing with thousands of animals leaping into a raging river filled with 15’ to 18’ Nile crocodiles!  We will be spending the longest part of our Safari within the Mara, giving us the optimum photo opportunities.  Also to help insure our photographic success, I offer the exceptional setup of only two photographers per van, which is a rarity among tour leaders!
